God is too pure to mix with sin.
We are to mirror His image.
Thus we are to strive to be as holy as possible so that being around sin and hurts repels us to the point of discomfort.
When someone gives us love and it feels painful, the pain is our sin rejecting (unable to mix with) goodness and love. We know this to be true because the more connected to goodness and love we get, the less we can feel that sinful connected pain.
